Francisco, CA - The Chinese Historical Society of America (CHSA)
is pleased to announce its Gala Celebration to be held Saturday,
September 14, 2002. Together with honorary co-chair Sally Yu Leung
and Title Legacy Sponsor Wells Fargo & Company, this gala ceremony
celebrates the contributions of eight Chinese American women who
have made outstanding achievements in their fields.
Our
2002 gala honorees are Regina Liang Chun, Corporate; March
Fong Eu, Public Service; Doreen Woo Ho, Corporate; Maxine
Hong Kingston, Literature; Eva Lowe, Community Activism;
Katie Quan, Labor; Beulah Quo, Media and Performing
Arts; and Jade Snow Wong, Arts and Humanities.
The
program emcees will be Lloyd LaCuesta, KTVU/Channel 2's South Bay
bureau chief; Jan Yanehiro, with the California State Automobile
Association; and Doris Him Grover and Gerrye Wong, CHSA�s capital
campaign co-chairs.
Established
in San Francisco, CHSA maintains a research and education center,
and a museum to study, record, and exhibit books, artifacts, and
works of art pertinent to the history and contributions of the Chinese
in the United States. CHSA opened its Museum and Learning Center
in the historic Julia Morgan Chinatown YWCA in November 2001.
The
gala reception begins at 6:00 pm, followed by dinner at 7:00 pm
and a special entertainment segment highlighting Chinese American
women�s fashion through history. The event also includes travel
donations from ec-OurCity.com (China Golden Tour), Southwest Airlines
(Orlando, Florida package), China Airlines, and many other donations.
Proceeds from this event will be used to develop CHSA�s K-12 educational
programs, exhibitions, and publications in the CHSA Museum and Learning
Center. Event sponsors include: Chao Suet Foundation, George Ow,
Jr. and family, and the San Francisco Examiner. Special thanks to
